BEng Engineering and Technology with Foundation Year

Course Overview

The BEng Engineering and Technology with Foundation Year at the University of Portsmouth is designed for students who do not meet the direct entry requirements for this engineering course. During the Foundation year, students will develop skills in maths, science and technology which are vital for studying at degree level.

The learning modules in this course include computing for engineers, electronic engineering, engineering materials and design, engineering principles, mathematical applications, sustainability and energy studies. Completing these modules will allow students to progress to the first year of the main degree.

Students will learn through theory and practicals. The teaching methods involve lectures, tutorials and workshops, with assessment done through exams, coursework, presentations and final-year research projects.

The University of Portsmouth is a public institution located in Portsmouth, England. Since it was established in 1870, UoP has been providing quality education. In 2022, UoP ranked as the 25th-largest higher education institution by student enrolments in the United Kingdom, with around 28,280 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement to discuss their interest in the course and any relevant experience. A reference from an academic or employer is required. A  CV can be uploaded to show any relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically need 56-64 UCAS tariff points to include one A level, or equivalent.
  • Alternatively, A levels - DDE-DEE are accepted.

English Proficiency:

  • Non-English language speaking applicants need an overall IELTS score of 5.5 with no component score below 5.5.
  • Alternatively, other tests like PTE or TOEFL are accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for this course is £19,200 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change.

Scholarships

The University of Portsmouth awards several scholarships to international students. Some of these include the Chancellor’s Global Academic Merit Scholarship, which offers a £5,000 reduction in fees and the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship, which offers a £2,500 fee reduction applied to the first year of study. These scholarships are awarded by the university when students meet the eligibility requirements.
