BA Entrepreneurship and Business

University of Portsmouth

Course overview

This course is designed to teach you how to spot business opportunities and launch new products. Whether you already have a business idea or not, you'll learn creative thinking skills that are essential in today's business world. You will gain the ability to add value to established companies or start your own business.

The curriculum covers fundamental business topics, and you'll have access to the university's support for startups. The course takes a hands-on approach, applying what you learn to real-world projects like business consulting and developing social enterprises.

You will receive mentoring from successful Entrepreneurs in Residence. Your work will be assessed through coursework, essays, reports, presentations, practical exercises, and exams, which are designed to reflect what you'll encounter in the workplace.

Entry requirements

To apply for this course, you need to write a personal statement. In this statement, explain why you want to study this specific degree and include any important details about your previous studies. You also need a reference letter from a teacher or lecturer who can tell us about your academic abilities. If you have any work experience that is relevant to the course, you can also include your CV with your application.

Grade Requirements:

  • For students starting in 2025, the usual academic level we look for is between 112 and 120 UCAS points. You can get these points from A-Levels with grades BBC, a Merit in a T Level, or a DMM grade in a BTEC. We also accept international qualifications that are seen as the same level as A-Levels.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not the first language you speak, you will usually need to show that your English is good enough for the course. One way to do this is to get an overall score of 6.0 in the IELTS test, with at least 5.5 in each part of the test. The university also accepts other English language qualifications, like TOEFL or PTE.
