PhD Finance
Course overview
The PhD Finance programme at the University of Lincoln is a research-focused degree designed for individuals aspiring to make significant contributions to the field of finance through rigorous and original research. Students will become integral members of the University's research community, collaborating with leading academics whose work has achieved international impact across business, policy, and society. The programme emphasises independent critical investigation, guided by an experienced supervisory team.
Learning and assessment within the PhD Finance programme are centred around the student's research project. Candidates will benefit from a structured programme of training provided by the Doctoral School, which aims to cultivate the practical and critical skills essential for the successful completion of the doctorate and for future career progression. Assessment is primarily through the completion of a substantial research thesis, which is then defended in an oral examination. Students may also have opportunities to support undergraduate teaching and will be encouraged to participate in the Researcher Development Programme to enhance their career prospects.
Entry requirements
Candidates must submit a research proposal and a personal statement outlining their reasons for applying and relevant academic background. At least one academic or professional reference is also required. Applicants may optionally upload a CV to highlight relevant work experience.
Grade Requirements:
-
Typically, applicants should possess a 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject, alongside a Master's degree (or international equivalent) at merit or higher. While academic qualifications are important, the suitability of the applicant to the programme and the research interests of our academic team are also carefully considered. Assessment is based on prior academic performance, the quality of the research proposal, and the availability of appropriate supervision.
