MSc Genetics
Course overview
The MSc Genetics at the University of Kent is designed for students to understand the processes inside living cells, especially at the molecular level. They will carry out modern research on the genetics of bacteria, fungi, animals, or humans. This work helps to develop knowledge in important areas like cancer and ageing, infectious diseases, and biotechnology for industry.
Their learning happens through an interactive approach that includes seminars, workshops, and lab meetings, instead of standard classroom lectures. Students work in a research laboratory on one main project that they agree upon with their supervisor. The degree finishes with a major written research paper and an oral examination, which prepares them for jobs or further study at the PhD level.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement where they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and any other relevant information regarding their previous studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the choice to upload their curriculum vitae (CVs) along with their applications to show their work experience. A crucial first step is to contact a potential supervisor directly to discuss a suitable research project before applying.
