LLB Law and Legislative Studies
Course overview
The LLB Law and Legislative Studies at the University of Hull is a three-year undergraduate law degree that teaches students both how the legal system works in court and how laws are created and changed in Parliament. This course is ideal for students who want to understand the full journey of law, from drafting legislation to applying it in real legal cases.
Teaching is highly practical and engaging. Alongside lectures and small-group seminars, students take part in hands-on legal activities such as mooting in the mock courtroom, practising client interviews, developing negotiation skills, and supporting real clients through the university’s free Legal Advice Centre.
Assessment is varied and designed to reflect real legal work. Students complete essays and coursework, deliver presentations, work in groups, participate in mooting competitions, carry out practical tasks such as drafting parts of legislation, and sit some written examinations at the end of modules.
Graduates receive a full qualifying law degree approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board, allowing progression to solicitor or barrister training. The additional focus on Parliament and law-making also provides a strong advantage for careers in government, policy, regulation, and parliamentary roles.
