BSc Mental Health Nursing
Course overview
The BSc Mental Health Nursing at the University of Hull is structured to prepare students for a career as a compassionate, skilled registered nurse specialising in mental health. The programme combines both classroom-based learning and hands-on clinical placements. Students learn from spending roughly half their time in lectures, seminars, workshops, and simulated learning, and the other half on mentored clinical placements in a variety of mental health settings. On completion, students will be eligible to register as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Over the three-year course, students take 120 credits per year by studying modules such as Fundamental Nursing Skills, Professional Practice, Promoting Health and Preventing Ill Health, and Developing Nursing Skills. Assessment is carried out through a mix of written work, practical evaluation, coursework, and professional practice assessment. The BSc Mental Health Nursing programme at the University of Hull is fully accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, meaning it meets the regulatory standards needed for a nursing qualification.
