MEng Automotive Engineering

University of Hertfordshire

Course overview

The MEng Automotive Engineering (and Sandwich) at the University of Hertfordshire is an integrated undergraduate programme. This degree emphasises vehicle design, performance, automation, and electrification. It also includes professional accreditation from IMechE and provides students with a work placement opportunity to gain practical experience, leading to a Master’s qualification.

Building on the foundation of the BEng pathway, this course provides an additional year to enable students to understand the automotive industry. They will gain technical knowledge, problem-solving, and communication skills through this programme. Additionally, the course is recognised by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)

Students learn about powertrain, aerodynamics, thermofluids, control systems, and design for safety and sustainability. They apply industry tools and specialised skills, including the Formula Student facilities, to complete projects. By the end of the degree, graduates will be able to find excellent opportunities in large corporations, component suppliers, and motorsport.

Learning is through lectures, tutorials, workshops, and group projects, and students are assessed through classroom presentations, discussions, assignments, examinations, and a final-year project.
