PhD Engineering - Research
Course overview
The PhD in Engineering - Research at the University of Greenwich is a 3-4 year full-time programme designed for students who wish to pursue original, in-depth research under expert supervision. Students first register for the MPhil programme and, after a successful review at the end of their first year, move on to PhD registration.
The study will focus on a specific research topic aligned to one of the faculty’s research groups. As part of the programme, students will participate in the Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme (PGRDP), which offers both mandatory and elective training sessions, workshops, and seminars to support skill development, while benefiting from excellent facilities, including Engineering laboratories and strong industrial connections.
Assessment is by submission of a written thesis and a viva-voce examination with a panel chair, external, and internal examiners. The supervisory team provides regular feedback, meeting formally every two weeks and via annual reviews by a faculty committee. This programme is based at the Medway Campus, the Department of Engineering hosts around 50 MPhil and PhD students across seven research groups, and comprehensive training from the Research and Enterprise Training Institute (RETI) will be provided throughout the studies.
