BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering Extended

University of Greenwich

Course overview

The BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Extended) at the University of Greenwich is a four-year full-time undergraduate degree that begins with a foundation year. This means that students who may not yet meet the full entry requirements can build their study skills and subject knowledge in the first year. In the foundation year, students may study basic mathematics for engineering, computing, and professional skills, then move into more technical years. In the following years, students will study electrical and electronic engineering topics, including circuits, signal processing, power systems, and control systems.

The extended route provides more time to adapt to university study and build confidence before commencing full degree-level work. The course typically aims to prepare students for professional accreditation through the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Students learn through lectures, seminars, lab sessions, workshops, and practical design studios. Much of the work will be hands-on, building circuits, assembling electronic systems, writing embedded software, testing and debugging hardware, and collaborating in teams. Assessment is through exams, continuous coursework (lab reports, design tasks), group projects, individual projects, and the final major project.
