University of EssexColchester Campus, United Kingdom

Course overview

The PhD Biochemistry at the University of Essex is a 3-4 year full-time Doctoral course that enables students to conduct research on fundamental biochemical mechanisms and the biochemical basis of disease states within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Essex. Undertaking this course means students will operate at the centre of the University’s well-resourced, globally recognised, and interconnected research community where top-notch supervision and training programs are provided.

Students will typically work under supervision to develop and pursue an original research project, engage in laboratory and field-based experimental work, and make use of specialist facilities and collaborative networks. Assessment is centred around the production of a thesis presenting an original contribution to knowledge, and may include seminars, publications, and oral examination. And twice a year, the students have a supervisory board meeting that allows them to discuss their project progress and plans for the next months.
