LLB Law with Criminal Justice
Course overview
The Law with Criminal Justice LLB at the University of Chester combines the study of law with an in-depth understanding of criminal justice. Students gain knowledge of contract law, tort law, criminal law, and public law, while also exploring how criminal justice systems work in practice. Key topics include policing, courts, punishment, rehabilitation, and human rights.
The programme develops both legal knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for careers in law, criminal justice, or further study. Learning experiences include guest lectures, pro bono work, real-world case studies, and opportunities to participate in legal clinics.
This full-time three-year degree begins with core modules in law, criminal justice, legal skills, and research. In later years, students can choose specialist modules such as criminal law, evidence, human rights, and policing. The final year offers optional pathways based on individual interests. Students may also engage in law society events, mooting, and the Chester Community Law Project.
Teaching includes lectures, seminars, workshops, guest sessions, and clinics. Assessments include essays, reports, presentations, and mock trials, designed to develop skills in legal writing, reasoning, and advocacy. Assessment methods are reviewed regularly to maintain relevance to legal practice.
