MEng Mechanical Engineering
Course overview
The MEng Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lancashire is a four-year honours degree that teaches students how to design, build and analyse mechanical systems and machines. The course is delivered using advanced labs, manufacturing workshops and design tools. The MEng Mechanical Engineering course at ULan is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), so it meets the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer status. This programme is taught at the Preston Campus of ULan.
The standard full-time route is four years, though a five-year option exists that includes an industrial placement. In the early years, students study core engineering topics such as mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and CAD. Later years include advanced modules, design projects, research elements and options for specialisation. Students learn through lectures, lab sessions, design workshops, manufacturing workshops and team projects. The course emphasises practical, hands-on learning as well as theoretical study. Assessments include written exams, lab reports, coursework, design tasks, group work and a final major project in the honours year.
