BSc Cyber Security with Foundation Year

University of Lancashire

Course overview

The BSc Cyber Security (with Foundation Year) at the University of Lancashire is a four-year degree in Cyber Security, created for students who do not have the direct entry requirements for the full degree. The first foundation year is designed to equip students with the academic skills, confidence, computing, and maths knowledge necessary to start the main degree programme successfully.

This degree will prepare students for a career in a field where skilled people are highly needed. It teaches them how to find and use security weaknesses in computer systems and networks, and then how to defend companies against these attacks. Students will also build key work skills such as logical thinking, working in a team, and acting ethically. Because the course is approved by the British Computer Society (BCS), it helps them meet the official requirements to become a Chartered IT Professional.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information about their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience. The University considers all educational achievements, work experience, and students' personal background when reviewing your application.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants will need 64 UCAS points from their qualifications, which can come from passes in A Level subjects or a Pass on an Access Course.

  • Equivalent vocational qualifications are accepted, such as a BTEC Extended Diploma at MPP, a BTEC Diploma at MM, an International Baccalaureate Diploma with 64 points from Higher Level subjects, or a T Level at P (D or E).

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds are required to score 6.0 overall in the IELTS Academic test, with no individual component being lower than 5.5, or submit an equivalent Secure English Language Test (SELT) score.
