University of Lancashire

BSc Architecture with Foundation Year

University of Lancashire

Course overview

This four-year Bachelor of Science degree starts with a foundation year built to give students the correct understanding of architectural theory, history, and important concepts like conservation and sustainability. They will benefit from practical skills in drawing and model making, and they will build ideas through experimental and exploratory work.

The Foundation Year's work helps students build a strong portfolio for future applications and gets them prepared for the accredited BSc (Hons) Architecture degree, which is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB). The degree years focus on advanced design knowledge, building technology, environmental challenges, and low-carbon approaches in design.

Entry requirements

Candidates must submit a personal statement in which they clearly state their reasons for wanting to study the course and other information in relation to their studies. A relevant academic or employer reference is also required. Students have the choice of uploading their CVs along with their applications to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Since this course includes a foundation year, it is the best choice for students who are unable to meet the normal entry requirements for the standard three-year degree.

  • Students must have GCSEs in math and English at grade C/4 or higher. The university will look at their past school results, their personal statement, and whether they can present a portfolio of creative work.

English Language Requirements:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking countries must achieve an overall IELTS score of 6.0 (with no component score less than 5.5 in any section) or submit equivalent test scores.
