BSc Psychology Counselling and Coaching With Foundation Year

Course Overview

The psychology, counselling, and coaching degree begins with a Foundation Year, where students work on academic writing, maths, and introductory content to prepare them for undergraduate study, especially helpful for those who did not meet standard entry requirements. After the Foundation Year, students progress to the degree proper, covering units like Foundations of Psychology, Biological and Cognitive Psychology, Social Processes and Lifespan Development, and Counselling & Psychotherapy in Context.

Students are taught using lectures, workshops, and peer coaching. The university provides modern facilities such as counselling practice pods, virtual reality equipment, neuropsychology labs, EEG tools, and data analysis software for hands-on experience.

Assessment is carried out through coursework, reflective journals, presentations, psychology case analyses, and research projects. Students receive helpful feedback from staff and practice skills in a realistic setting. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Students who earn at least a second-class honours degree become eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), allowing further postgraduate study.
