Course overview
The BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences course prepares you for a career in drug discovery by equipping you with the essential knowledge and skills in biology, pharmacology, and medicinal chemistry. You will gain a complete understanding of the entire drug development process, from basic chemistry all the way to the use of a drug in a clinic.
Assessment tasks may include written exams, case studies with a poster presentation, lab notebooks and reports, literature reviews, business proposals, and Oral presentations. Your assessments are designed to ensure you meet the required standards for graduates and to help you develop the skills needed for future jobs.
A key goal in this programme is to blend transferable skills into your learning and assessments to improve your employability. The courses focus on the business applications of knowledge with assessments that help you develop practical ideas and skills for the workplace. You will also be supported by the University's Careers and Employability service throughout your course.
Entry requirements
To apply for the BSc (Honours) Pharmaceutical and Chemical Science, you will submit a personal statement showcasing your passion for science, a reference from an academic or employer, and a CV with details of your previous qualifications.
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants require a minimum of 96 UCAS tariff points, typically from three A-levels (or equivalent), with a preference for science-related subjects like Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics, though other subjects are considered.
- Equivalent international qualifications with relevant subjects are accepted.
- Relevant work or volunteering experience in science or healthcare settings strengthens your application.
English Proficiency:
- Applicants from non-English-speaking backgrounds must achieve a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
- Equivalent test scores, such as TOEFL or PTE, are also accepted.
