BSc Computer Science Top-up

University College Birmingham

Course overview

The BSc Computer Science Top-up at University College Birmingham (UCB) is a one-year course designed for students who already hold qualifications such as an FdSc (Foundation Degree in Science) or an HND (Higher National Diploma). These two-year qualifications blend theoretical study with hands-on experience and can be converted into a full honours degree through this top-up programme.

This course enables students to complete their academic journey and earn a full BSc (Hons) in Computer Science. The curriculum covers advanced subjects such as mobile app development, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software design, and research skills. Assessment is conducted through assignments, practical projects, and lab work. Additionally, some students may be eligible for a one-year work placement, during which they are exempt from tuition fees.

Entry requirements

Applicants whose previous qualifications are in a different subject area may still be considered if they can demonstrate relevant professional experience or strong computing skills.

Grade Requirements:

  • ECTS: European and international applicants must have completed at least 120 ECTS credits (or equivalent) in a relevant higher education subject — approximately equal to two years of full-time university study.
