LLB Law with Criminology

The University of Law

Course overview

The LLB Law with Criminology (with Foundation Year) at the University of Law is a four-year full-time undergraduate degree. It begins with a foundation year that builds core academic skills, Communication skills, Digital and Research Skills, and a project on Core Concepts of Law, preparing students for degree-level study. In the following three years, students study a mix of law and criminology modules: the Law modules cover Public Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Business Law, while criminology modules explore Introduction to Criminology, Society and Punishment, Media, Crime and Control. The criminology content is designed by practising criminologists, ensuring the material is relevant and practically applied.

Learning is delivered through a combination of large-group sessions and small workshops. Assessment methods include examinations, essays, project reports, portfolios, oral presentations, and mock assessments. Each module typically runs over 12 teaching weeks, followed by three weeks of assessment. On completion, students are well-prepared to take the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1) or to progress to the Bar Practice Course if they wish to qualify as barristers. The course also builds a strong foundation for postgraduate study in law or criminology.
