LLB Law Senior Status

Swansea University

Course overview

The LLB Law (Senior Status) is a fast-track, full-time course that takes two years to complete. It is specifically for students who already have an undergraduate degree from a university outside the UK in a subject that is not law. The course aims to quickly provide students with a full understanding of the legal and criminal justice systems of England and Wales. It gives students all the essential legal knowledge needed as a foundation for a career in law.

This degree teaches students all the essential areas of law, giving them a strong foundation if they plan to take the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE) later or train to be a barrister. Learning is focused on the student and includes practical opportunities, such as working in the Law Clinic and taking part in activities like mooting (mock trials). The way students are assessed is varied, which helps them learn on their own and master new skills needed in the profession.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV) along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need to hold a Second Class Honours degree (2:1 or equivalent) in any subject discipline from a university outside the UK.
  • The degree should be from a recognised institution. The course is built on the assumption that applicants already have strong academic skills from their first degree, so performance is the key requirement.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not the applicant's first language, they need to score at least 6.0 overall in the IELTS Academic test, and no part of the test (like reading or writing) should be lower than 5.5.
  • Applicants can also submit equivalent scores from other approved English language tests, but these results must still be valid when your course begins.
