Course overview

The MPhil in Plasma Surface Engineering is a research programme that lets students study a specific topic in this area. Students will get to work in modern facilities at the Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI). The course will help them learn important engineering technologies, processes, and techniques.

This programme is mostly done independently, with support and supervision from a team of experts. The course includes training in research, laboratory work, and sessions on ethics. Students' completed research can be published alongside the widely respected work of MERI academics.

Entry requirements

Candidates must submit a completed postgraduate application form. This should include a research proposal of around 1500 words, where the candidates discuss their chosen area of study. Candidates are encouraged to find out about the staff's current research to make sure their proposal fits with their themes.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates should have a strong undergraduate degree, with a grade of 2:1 or higher. A relevant master's qualification is also acceptable.

English Proficiency:

  • If the candidates are from a country where English is not the main language, they must provide proof of their English language ability.
  • An overall IELTS score of 6.5 or above, with at least 6.0 in each component or an accepted equivalent. Please note that your test score must be current, i.e. within the last two years.
