MEng Mechanical Engineering

The MEng Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University is a four-year master’s-level engineering course. It prepares students to become Chartered Engineers right from the start. Students learn how to design, test, build, and analyse mechanical systems. They cover a mix of theory and industry-led practice, including design, thermofluids, materials, systems, and manufacturing. This course begins with mechanical design, dynamics, thermodynamics, manufacturing, and maths. Students then progress to modules in simulation, solid and fluid mechanics, control systems, materials science, and CAD.

The placement year between Year 2 and Year 3 gives real-world experience and adds an Applied Professional Diploma to the degree. Students learn through lectures, lab work, group briefs, computational modelling, and problem-based tasks. • Applicants typically need 72 UCAS points with, ABB–AAB at A-Level, including maths and another science or technical subject.

• For applicants who do not speak English as their first language, it is necessary to have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 with no skill section below 5.5.
