BEng Honours Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering with Foundation Year

Course Overview

The BEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering with Engineering with Foundation Year at Sheffield Hallam University offers a four-year route to a degree. The first year builds core skills in maths, science, and engineering thinking. After that, students move on to the honours degree, where they learn how to design and build smart machines that blend mechanics, electronics, and computing. The course teaches students how to make robots, automated systems, control systems, and sensors.

Students often work on real projects and can take part in industry visits or student competitions. Students learn through lectures, small-group workshops, lab sessions, and projects. They use electronic kits, programming tools, CAD software, and robotics labs.

Assessment includes reports, presentations, practical tasks, group work, exams, design portfolios, and a final project. Most work is hands-on and links theory to real engineering problems.
