Course overview

This Master's programme allows individuals with existing IT experience, or those with degrees in subjects outside of computing, pursue a career in the IT sector with a specialism in Business Intelligence. The course provides core computing and business intelligence skills, focusing on areas like data science, database systems, and software development. Students learn to use modern software and business intelligence tools in the university’s quality facilities to find high-quality solutions for commercial needs.

The programme's instruction combines lectures, small group teaching, and essential practical laboratory work, supported by an online environment. Student marks are awarded through ongoing assessment, such as written examinations, reports, practical assignments, and a substantial final research dissertation. The full-time course is generally completed in 12 to 17 months, though this duration is extended if a professional work placement is selected.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their previous studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required for your application. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate any relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least a second-class (2:2) undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in any subject outside of computing.
  • Applicants with a degree that has a lower classification and/or relevant work experience will be looked at individually.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no score in any individual section being lower than 5.5, or submit an equivalent English language test score.
