Nottingham Trent University

Course overview

This is a three-year, undergraduate course (or four years with an optional placement) that offers theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical skills in physics. The programme covers fundamental concepts, including Classical and Quantum Mechanics, and then specialised areas such as Solid State Physics and Applied Fluid Dynamics. The course is built to support students in becoming confident and experienced graduates, giving them opportunities for both short, paid summer research scholarships and a professional work placement year.

The degree is accredited by the Institute of Physics (IOP), ensuring that its curriculum meets high standards and makes graduates eligible to meet the educational requirements for becoming a Chartered Physicist. Students learn in inspirational environments, using professional-grade facilities like an on-campus observatory, radio telescopes, and advanced medical imaging scanners. Assessment includes coursework, practical laboratory assessments, and formal exams.
