BSc Sport and Exercise Science

Course Overview

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science at London South Bank University is a hands-on programme designed to build skills across all areas of Sports Science. It helps students understand the scientific principles behind human performance. This course prepares individuals for jobs in high-level sport, sports medicine, or promoting public health and fitness.

The teaching is provided by staff recognised internationally, and students can use special sports science facilities. These include a Human Performance Centre and research laboratories for practical skill development and gaining real-world experience. The course also offers a chance to gain professional qualifications, such as becoming a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer.

London South Bank University (LSBU) is a lively and engaging place to learn. Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need 112 UCAS points or equivalent Level 3 qualifications. The university also considers previous skills, knowledge, or experience gained outside of formal education, along with any special circumstances. Relevant work experience may also be considered for those with other qualifications.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate their English proficiency. Applicants also need to score 6.0 overall in IELTS Academic, with no less than 5.5 in each component.
  • If applicants do not have the necessary English and Maths qualifications, partner colleges offer courses to help improve these skills.

Cost of Study

For international students, the annual tuition fee for this programme is £15,500.

Scholarships

London South Bank University (LSBU) offers various scholarships to help students with their fees. One key opportunity is the LSBU Active Sports Scholarship, designed for talented sportsmen and women. This scholarship provides financial support and other benefits to help them manage their sport alongside their studies. Applications for the 2025/26 academic year are open from July 1st to October 24th, and require a coach's reference and details of sporting achievements.

For international students, LSBU has several noteworthy scholarships. The International Merit Scholarships can reduce tuition fees by up to £4,000 for undergraduate students with excellent academic records. Additionally, the Global Success Scholarship offers up to £4,000, with Sport Science students specifically eligible for £2,000. Another option for international students demonstrating strong academic achievement is the Vice-Chancellor's International Merit Award, which provides £2,000 for each academic year.

Beyond these, LSBU also provides important support bursaries for UK students who meet specific criteria, such as the Care Leaver Bursary, Estranged Students Bursary, and Young Adult Carers Award. There are also specific awards like the Lawrence Burrows Educational Trust Fund for students from West Indian or Asian backgrounds, and the LSBU Group Progression Award for students from South Bank Colleges.
