BEng Mechanical Engineering

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course at London South Bank University provides students with thorough technical training and professional accreditation, teaching them the skills they need to work as mechanical engineers. The programme combines classic mechanical engineering topics with the latest developments to help graduates design, manufacture, and test mechanical systems and products that are efficient and sustainable.

At London South Bank University, students learn through hands-on experience, using virtual engineering labs and state-of-the-art 3D printing technology, and in their final year, they work on an individual "design-make-test" project that simulates real-world engineering tasks, while studying key subjects like mathematics, thermofluids, dynamics, design, solid mechanics, electrical engineering, materials, and modelling.

Applicants are required to submit a personal statement, academic or employer reference, and a detailed research proposal, with an optional CV, to show their suitability for the course.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants need 120-128 UCAS Tariff points which is achieved with A-Level grades such as BBB, which must include Mathematics or a Physical Science subject.
• For those with a Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma, DDM is needed, including Mathematics or a Physical Science.
• An Access to HE Diploma should include 3 Distinctions in Mathematics and 9 Merits in Physics.
• All applicants must also hold 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above), including Mathematics and English.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants need an overall score of IELTS 6.0, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.
• TOEFL IBT (minimum 80 overall, with specific minimums for each skill) or Pearson Test of English Academic (minimum 52 overall) are accepted.

For the full BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course, the international tuition fee is £14,900 for the 2025 entry.
