BSc Medical Bioscience

Course Overview

The BSc Medical Bioscience degree gives students an understanding of the science of human health and disease. Students will learn subjects such as bioinformatics, molecular modelling, and systems pathology.

Classes take place in the university's Science Centre, a facility with advanced teaching laboratories. Graduates of this course are in high demand for career opportunities in medical research, health agencies, forensic labs, and pharmaceutical companies.

The programme focuses highly on laboratory experiments and data analysis, which are assessed through practical reports, poster presentations, and problem-solving exercises. Students have an option for a 15-week work placement to gain industry experience.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

Candidates need to submit a personal statement and relevant information regarding their studies, an academic and/or employer reference, and their CVs to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 112 points from A levels, including a C in Biology or Human Biology (or a minimum of 112 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification).
  • An English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above (or equivalent).

English Proficiency:

  • Candidates need an overall score of 6.0 in the IELTS Academic test, with no score below 5.5.
  • Other English language test scores, such as PTE Academic and TOEFL IBT, are accepted, amongst others.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for the course for international students is £19,500, which is subject to change yearly.

Scholarships

London Metropolitan University provides scholarships to support international students, including the International Bright Futures Scholarship, which offers a £3,000 tuition fee reduction, given automatically to eligible students. The Elite Scholarships cater to students from specific countries, such as Canada and the USA, offering up to £5,500 per year. Also, the London Metropolitan University Sanctuary Scholarship assists students facing immigration-related funding challenges.

The Unite Foundation Scholarship Scheme also offers three years of free accommodation to eligible undergraduate students who are care leavers or taken away from their parents, making university education accessible to them. Sir John Cass’s Foundation Lord Mayor’s Scholarship Programme is also available for first-year undergraduate science students, offering up to £7,000 per year.
