The Liverpool John Moores University BEng Mechanical Engineering with Foundation Year programme is for students who have the potential to study engineering at university but do not hold the required qualifications for direct entry. The course is professionally accredited and emphasises learning through practical application. You will gain a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles, along with essential professional skills such as project management. The university's modern facilities, including laboratories and workshops with state-of-the-art software, are used throughout the course.
The foundation year prepares you for the main degree. Once you pass the foundation year, you will progress directly to the first year of the BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programme. The curriculum is designed with input from industry experts to ensure it meets the needs of future employers. If you achieve high grades in your first two years, you may have the opportunity to transfer to the MEng programme.

Grade Requirements:
You need a minimum of 64 UCAS tariff points from a combination of qualifications, including A-levels, T-levels, BTECs, and the International Baccalaureate. The university accepts International qualifications that are equivalent to A-levels.
English Proficiency:
If you are from a non-English speaking background, you must have an IELTS overall score of 6.0, with no section score below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification, such as the TOEFL or PTE.
Tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic year are £18,250 for international students.
Liverpool John Moores University offers an International Achievement Scholarship for eligible undergraduate students. This scholarship provides a £3,000 partial tuition fee reduction for each year of study. This is automatically awarded to self-funded students who meet the conditions in their course offer letter and are not sponsored by an external source. An Early Payment Discount of £500 is also available for self-funded international students starting in September 2025 who pay their fees by the required deadline.
