Course overview

The BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science/Biomedical Science programme at Glasgow Caledonian University is designed to train future biomedical scientists with laboratory testing skills that are important for diagnosing and managing diseases within the NHS and other healthcare industries.

This course is the only one in Glasgow with a placement opportunity and holds triple accreditation from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), and the Royal Society of Biology.

The course is a four-year full-time degree that uses various teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions, with assessments ranging from essays, case studies, and presentations to unseen examinations and laboratory reports. The coursework has a foundation in areas like cellular pathology, clinical biochemistry, haematology, and clinical microbiology

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to submit a personal statement, academic or employer reference, and a detailed research proposal, with an optional CV, to show their suitability for the course.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need a UCAS score of 102. (A-levels at BCC grade or Scottish Highers at BBBC, which must include two science subjects).
  • A minimum entry requirement of a 90 UCAS Tariff is accepted (such as A-levels at CCC or Scottish Highers at BCCC, also including two science subjects).

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants need an IELTS score of 7.0 overall, with no individual component score below 6.5.
  • A TOEFL iBT with a score of 78.
  • The Oxford Test of English (OTE) with a score of 121.
  • A Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 70.
