MSc Mechatronics and Robotics

Course Overview

MSc Mechatronics and Robotics at De Montfort University is designed to help students from different engineering backgrounds gain the skills needed to work in this fast-growing field. The course prepares you for a career in industries such as automation, robotics, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and energy.

You will learn how to bring together mechanical, electronic, and software engineering to create smart systems and useful machines. You will study important subjects such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Vision, Embedded Systems, Control, and Instrumentation. You will also learn how to do basic programming and how to connect different parts of a system so they work well together.

Studying MSc Mechatronics and Robotics at De Montfort University gives you access to experienced teachers and well-equipped laboratories. You can also choose to take a one-year work placement, which gives you real-world experience in the industry. The course is approved by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), so your qualification will be recognised by employers in many countries.

About University

De Montfort University (DMU) is a public university in Leicester, a city in central England. The university started in 1870 as the Leicester School of Art, which was created to teach art to local people. In 1992, it became a university and was named De Montfort University, after Simon de Montfort, a well-known historical leader from Leicester.

DMU has four main academic departments. These are: Art, Design and Humanities; Business and Law; Health and Life Sciences; Computing, Engineering and Media.

The university offers more than 300 courses at foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. Many of these courses are approved by professional bodies, have strong links to companies, or include work experience to help students prepare for future careers.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

  • If you do not have a formal education but have strong industry experience, your application may be considered.  

Grade Requirements:

  • To study this course, you should have the equivalent of a UK honours degree of at least 2:2 in a relevant subject. 

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English are required to provide proof of proficiency in the language by having an IELTS overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each of the four elements. 

Cost of Study

For the 2025/2026 academic session, the tuition fee to study an MSc in Mechatronics and Robotics at De Montfort University is £18,700. Please note that fees are provisional and subject to change.

Scholarships

De Montfort University offers several scholarships and financial support options to help international students with the cost of studying. One of these is the Global Access Scholarship. This scholarship is for international students who are starting a full-time postgraduate taught course at the university. The amount of money you receive from the scholarship depends on the subject you are studying.
