LLM in Legal Professional Practice SQE Preparation Course

The LLM in Legal Professional Practice is an SQE preparation course designed to help students get ready for the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE 1 and SQE 2). This is the new way to become a solicitor in England and Wales. The course is taught by experienced legal experts, many of whom are former barristers and solicitors, using an innovative block teaching method.

The course is designed to impart the essential knowledge and skills to the students in preparation for the SQE exams, as well as improve their employability. The most defining element is the provision of the BARBRI SQE Prep software at no extra cost. During their final block of teaching, students are given personalised support by a qualified solicitor and undertake a dissertation.

To be enrolled, students are required to submit a personal statement, and a relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience. 

Grade Requirements: 

• Applicants are normally expected to have a degree with a minimum pass of 2:2 or an equivalent overseas or professional qualification.

English Proficiency:

• If English is not the applicant's first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each band is required. Other equivalent test scores, like PTE, are accepted.

For the 2025/26 academic year, the tuition fee for international students taking the LLM in Legal Professional Practice (SQE Preparation Course) at De Montfort University is £18,450.
