Cardiff Metropolitan University

Course overview

The four-year BSc Podiatry degree, which incorporates a foundation year, holds professional accreditation from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Podiatry. Podiatrists are specialist healthcare professionals who focus on the foot, ankle, and lower leg, providing care to improve patient mobility, independence, and overall quality of life. The foundation year is specifically designed to prepare students for subsequent study years, helping them strengthen essential skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for a science-based honours degree.

The educational approach uses a good combination of theory and practice, using new ideas like hands-on workshops, clinics, and simulation centres. Students gain 1000 hours of clinical experience during the programme. They do practical placements in both NHS University Health Boards in Wales and in private clinics. Assessment is done through different methods, including case reports, presentations, clinical exams, and a major research project on a subject the student chooses.
