Course Overview

The BSc (Hons) Public Health at Buckinghamshire New University gives you the knowledge and practical skills needed to make a difference in the health and well-being of communities. Following the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework, the course explores how social, cultural, political, and global factors influence population health.

You will study important topics such as health promotion theory, ethical decision making, epidemiology, safeguarding, and health education. You will also learn useful practical skills, like motivational interviewing and how to carry out research. During class discussions, you will build your confidence by sharing ideas with others.

Throughout the course, you will take part in real-life health promotion activities and meet people who work in public health. In your final year, you will write a dissertation on a public health topic that you are interested in, with help from your tutor.

About University

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) is a public university in England. Its main campus is in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The university also has other campuses in Aylesbury, Uxbridge (in West London), and a special location at Pinewood Studios, which is famous for film production.

BNU offers good-quality courses that are focused on real jobs. Students can study both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The university emphasises practical learning and aims to make students "job-ready" when they graduate. Many courses include work placements and projects with real companies.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

Grade Requirements:

  • To study this course, a UCAS tariff score of 88-112 is required. This can be obtained through qualifications such as A Levels, T Levels, BTEC or an Access to Higher Education Course in a relevant subject.

English Proficiency: 

  • Non-native speakers of English are expected to show proficiency in English by having an IELTS score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each of the four elements. 

  • Equivalent tests such as PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, LanguageCert Academic, and others are also accepted. 

Cost of Study

For the 2025/2026 academic year, the tuition fee to study the BSc (Hons) Public Health at Buckinghamshire New University is £15,150. Please note that fees are paid annually and are, therefore, subject to change.

Scholarships

Buckinghamshire New University assists international students with finances for their studies by offering different scholarships and bursaries. One example is the Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship. This scholarship gives between £1,500 and £5,000 to international students who are paying their fees. The money is provided in the first year to help with the cost of studying at the university.
