The Brunel University London Civil Engineering (Flood and Coastal Engineering) programme is designed to develop engineers capable of addressing modern societal and environmental challenges. After a shared first-year foundational engineering curriculum, the second year focuses on core civil engineering subjects such as material science, structural analysis, hydraulics, and surveying.
In the third year, students can specialise by choosing the Flood and Coastal Engineering pathway, deepening their knowledge in vital areas such as fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrological processes, and resilient infrastructure, with an emphasis on mitigating climate change impact.
The programme places a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning within sector-leading laboratories, guided by experienced civil engineering academics. Students engage in real-world projects and are introduced to industry-standard engineering software. The degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), fulfilling the educational requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status and partially contributing towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
An optional work placement year can be undertaken between the second and third academic years, offering valuable professional experience.
