Course Overview

The MSc Dietetics (Pre-registration) at Birmingham City University prepares you to work as a qualified dietitian. Dietitians are the only health professionals who are trained to find, understand, and treat health problems that are linked to food and nutrition. Therefore, there is a growing need for experts in this field.

Studying MSc Dietetics at Birmingham City University, you will learn important topics like food science, nutrition, clinical illness, medicine, and how special diets are used to treat patients. This full-time course takes a minimum of two years to complete. Each year includes 45 weeks of study. You will take part in at least 1,000 hours of learning in real healthcare settings. About University

Birmingham City University is a large public university situated in central Birmingham, England’s second-largest city. The institution began in 1843 as the Birmingham College of Art. It became a polytechnic in 1992 and gained full university status the same year. 

The City Centre Campus of the university is located near Millennium Point. It includes the Parkside Building (media, arts, film and TV studios), the Curzon Building (business, law, social sciences), Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and the STEAMhouse innovation hub. 

Birmingham City University has invested over £400 million in modern teaching and learning facilities, including TV and radio studios, mock hospital wards, law courts, and engineering labs. BCU has approximately 2,300 academic staff who maintain active industry links and professional connections. 

Entry Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a strong interest in working as a registered dietitian, with a good understanding of the role and the skills required to be a registered practitioner. They may also be asked to provide their undergraduate degree transcripts. 

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants will typically be expected to have a 2:1 honours degree, or equivalent, which includes the study of Human Physiology and Biochemistry. Other suitable degrees include Biomedical Science, Human Nutrition, Nutritional Science, Human Biology, and Health Sciences. 

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the language with an IELTS overall score of 7.0 with nothing less than 6.5 in each component. 
  • Alternative equivalent tests, such as TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic, are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee to study an MSc in Dietetics (Pre-registration) at Birmingham City University for the 2025/26 academic session is £18,600. Please note that fees are paid annually and are, therefore, subject to change.

Scholarships

Annually, BCU offers several scholarships and financial aid options to recognise the talents of international students. All international students applying for a postgraduate course will receive a scholarship of up to £2,000 which is deducted from their school fees.
